John Lueken joined the firm in April of 2014 after a decade working with Goldman Sachs in Manhattan. As vice president and equity analyst with the macro trading team of the Securities division, John built, developed and traded unique custom solutions for client portfolios. Focused on researching and understanding global macro fundamentals and their impact on the equity and fixed-income marketplace, John identified sectors, industries and single stock investment ideas best positioned to capitalize on the changing macro environment. He also wrote a daily morning perspective that was sent to more than 700 colleagues and clients, focusing on flow-of-funds data, short-interest activity and single stock fundamentals. Under John’s leadership, the business became the fastest growing and most profitable desk in the Goldman Sachs securities division from 2006 through 2012.

Prior to that, he served for two years as a financial analyst in the firm’s Equity Products Group. John earned his MBA from Columbia University’s business school with a concentration in security analysis and applied-value investing. John says, “These have been my passions for the past several years. Since graduating from Columbia, I’ve worked tirelessly to develop my fundamental investment framework. I apply it daily to investment ideas while being mindful of the changing global macro environment.”

In May 2015, John’s outlook on the biotech company Illumina was featured in a Barron’s magazine article. When John came on board in 2014, RIABiz Magazine wrote a piece on him. He has also been asked to speak at events, such as Baron Funds’ Rocky Mountain Think Tank Roundtable in Vail, Colorado, and Beard’s Group Distressed Investing Conference in New York City.

John hails from St. Louis, Missouri, and graduated with a BS in business administration from Washington University’s Olin School of Business. While studying abroad his junior year at the London School of Economics, he interned as a market surveillance analyst at the London Metal Exchange.

He and his wife Samantha have two daughters and a son. John enjoys skiing, basketball, baseball, golf, travel and reading, and he is an active fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. He is also active with the Nashville Zoo, serving on the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee and the Investment Subcommittee, as well as Chair of the Conservation Committee and Co-Chair of the 2018 Zoo Golf Classic.
